Teaching in Korea by City

Seoul

The most openings, great transport, and a big expat community. Districts like Gangnam, Mapo, and Nowon always have positions coming through. Living costs run ~$1,383/month all-in (rent ~$764 for a 1BR) — manageable when housing is covered.

~$1,383/month total
Busan

Beaches, lower rent (~$414 for a 1BR), and a noticeably chill pace. Good hagwon options around Haeundae and Seomyeon — and more left over at month's end.

~$930/month total
Daegu

Mid-sized, affordable (~$337 for a 1BR), and a solid range of hagwon jobs. Quieter than Seoul but with everything you need. Good pick if saving money matters.

~$1,132/month total
Gyeonggi & beyond

Suwon, Yongin, Ilsan — just outside Seoul with direct rail and lower rent ($380–530). Schools outside the capital often pay more to attract teachers. If you're open to stepping out of Seoul, your savings go up quite a bit.

~$970–$1,140/month total
